This model was particularly hard to create because nothing in it is straight or vertical. The
sag in the roof made the construction of the rafters a challenge and the inside had to be
planned ahead of time.
The saddle on the
horse is made of paper
and colored tape. The
stirrups are made from
thin wire.
The shingles are Paper Creek Models N scale
shingles. Tedious to apply so many (they come
in strips) but the result, as I am sure you will
agree, was worth it. Some are installed singly.
Note the weathering, the wood is well
aged yet you can still see some of the
original paint showing through. The
techniques used were a thin wash of
weathered black and dry-brushing.
The tree is made of metal
with foliage. The bushes
are fine lichen and foam.
The ground cover is also
foam. Note the ruts in the
road. I paint with Pactra
acrylics, because it is
water-based it is not as bad
as regular enamel solvents
but warps the thin siding
material. To minimize this I
place freshly painted walls
between two pieces of
wood with a weight on
them. This makes them dry
flat... most of the time.
There are two 3 volt grain of rice
bulbs inside, one on the left and
one on the right. I didn't realize as
I was taking the picture that the
one on the right had shifted and
was touching the wall. The lights I
install don't usually shine through !
I hope you have enjoyed looking at this model of a barn.
